Creative Allies

Earlier this month I applied for a T shirt contest for the Crescent City  Blue’s and BBQ Festival.  Although I didn’t win it, it was fun to do and was a nice pat on the back to be one of the Editors Pick out of 169 entries. Next...

Hayes Corn Maze::::Massachusetts PT.1

On our last day in Massachusetts, we stopped by a seemingly ordinary corn maze called Hayes Corn Maze next to Sweet Pea Farm (will write about them soon!)    After speaking to the owner, we realized there was nothing ordinary about this corn maze.  He designs a new 6 acre maze each year depending on what’s going on that year and plants the seeds on a grid system.  The corn field will then be cropped and used as feed for the animals next door at Sweet Pea Farm for their cows, chickens, and their prized...

For the Soul

My fascination for random junk. I got these babies at a “Tag Sale” (Apparently, that’s what they called Garage Sales in the East Coast) and am thoroughly obsessed with them.  Made in Japan, hand painted soup bowl for whatever mood you are in.  Tiny vegetable figurines adorn the top of the lids for a distinct handy detail! $2.50  for the whole family! Meet the Gang!...

Sheepgate::::Conneticut PT.1

This past weekend, Len and I  had the pleasure of visiting Connecticut & Massachusetts.   One of our favorite expereinces came from a hidden store in the middle of the woods called Sheepgate.  The store carries only hand made items that are one of a kind, such as scarves, jackets, and jewelery just to list a few items.  Maureen Costello, the proprietor was not present, but her generous husband encouraged us to take a slow look at all their hand selected items  even though the store had just closed.  After purchasing hand made goat...

Crystal Lake

For the past 3 or 4 weekends, I’ve been finding myself up in the mountains outlining our city limits looking for more clarity. I think it’s humbling to be with cascading trees rather than buildings, dirt than asphalt. After  being closed for 9 years, we visited Crystal Lake in the Azua Canyons; the only real lake is the San Gabriel Mountains. After the drive up miles of winding roads and a short hike up a small trail, the little pond we call a...

As a F.I.D.M. graduate, there are many opportunities  to be showcased as one of their colorful alums. Last Wednesday, I was asked to come in and speak to the current graphic design students and give them advice and share my experiences after graduating. Here is the link to the official story. And below are some pictures I stole from the link. Photos are all taken by the wonderful Mani O’Brien, F.I.D.M’s designer & journalist. The pictures below are of me speaking to the students and also the table scape I created using my...

A Wild Man

I have an infinite appreciation for hand done art and it always fascinates me to see other accomplished artists creating for means of a career.   A few weekends ago, Mooneyes had a BBQ and had their pin striper, Wild Man come out and freehand on anything you could give him. The only thing I had was my quote book and this is what I got back. Check out Wild Man HERE. Pictures do no justice to man free handing 4 point type. I think I was drooling watching him...

All In the Family

Thinking about this year I am startled that it’s half way over. From my brother moving to Japan in January, to me moving to New York a few months to follow, coming back home to Los Angeles after losing family in the recent earthquake in Japan, it’s gone by quickly with no posts. I am ashamed that I did not partake much and as soon as I should have with supporting the loss of my family.   My father, lost his hometown to the Tsunami and took it upon himself to make a change and collected donations from anyone that would listen and...
